Pines Lean hosts a collection of poems written by me, Patrick McCuistion. Inspired by the loss of my father and the aftermath of that experience, I sought to acclimate by writing. I hope that my journey through the peaks and valleys of grief offers quiet contemplation and a new perspective on what it means to live through the loss of a loved one.
My parents have always been huge supporters of my work and Iām so grateful to the village that has gathered around my family to support us in our time of need. May these poems be a blessing to you as they have helped me navigate troubled waters.
If you want to read more about some of the work I found very inspiring and helpful during this season, I highly recommend:
A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis
Living When a Loved One Has Died by Earl A. Grollman
Versed In Country Things by Robert Frost
Much of the work was inspired by the style of A Grief Observed and Living When a Loved One Has Died and the layout of my work is inspired by Versed In Country Things, a lovely book of poems that was sitting in our farmhouse when I was a child.
My wife drew all of the images for these poems and has been a constant encouragement and support for me during these times.
My friend Michael McCormic graciously offered his time in the editorial phase for this project and has provided a key voice, clarifying the work and helping each poem flow well. You can read more about the art I get to make with him and the rest of our band on our website.
