Pines Lean hosts a collection of poems written by me, Patrick McCuistion. Inspired by the loss of my father and the aftermath of that experience, I sought to acclimate by writing. I hope that my journey through the peaks and valleys of grief offers quiet contemplation and a new perspective on what it means to live through the loss of a loved one.

My parents have always been huge supporters of my work and Iā€™m so grateful to the village that has gathered around my family to support us in our time of need. May these poems be a blessing to you as they have helped me navigate troubled waters.

If you want to read more about some of the work I found very inspiring and helpful during this season, I highly recommend:

  • A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis

  • Living When a Loved One Has Died by Earl A. Grollman

  • Versed In Country Things by Robert Frost

Much of the work was inspired by the style of A Grief Observed and Living When a Loved One Has Died and the layout of my work is inspired by Versed In Country Things, a lovely book of poems that was sitting in our farmhouse when I was a child.

My wife drew all of the images for these poems and has been a constant encouragement and support for me during these times.

My friend Michael McCormic graciously offered his time in the editorial phase for this project and has provided a key voice, clarifying the work and helping each poem flow well. You can read more about the art I get to make with him and the rest of our band on our website.
